How to complete the Pokédex in Pokémon GO
A full Pokédex in Pokémon GO is one of the game's biggest long-term goals. With over 1025 Pokémon available (and more being added with each new generation), it's a multi-year project — but having a strategy makes it manageable.
Step 1 — Know what you have and what you're missing
Before anything else, get a clear picture of your gaps. The in-game Pokédex makes this hard to see at a glance. Using an external tracker that shows all Pokémon in a filterable grid — where you can mark what you have — gives you a much clearer starting point.
Step 2 — Prioritise event Pokémon
Community Days are your best source of evolved forms that are otherwise rare. Each Community Day features a specific Pokémon in high spawn rates for a few hours, and Community Day moves are often the best for PvP and raids. Plan around the calendar.
GO Fests are your best opportunity for regional exclusives, as Niantic often makes them available globally for the duration of the event.
Step 3 — Use trades to fill gaps efficiently
Trading is the fastest way to fill regional gaps and get Pokémon you've had bad luck finding. Build up a large friends list — more friends means more potential trade partners. Being at Pokémon GO events puts you in the same place as players from all over the world.
Step 4 — Raid strategically
Legendaries and pseudo-legendaries can only be caught in raids. Keep track of the current raid rotation and prioritise any Pokémon you're missing during their raid windows. Some legendaries come back regularly, others are more rare.
The hardest Pokémon to complete
- •Regional exclusives — require travel or trades
- •Event-exclusive shinies — only available during specific windows
- •Legendary Pokémon — require raid passes and coordination
- •Pokémon that only evolve with special items
- •Shadow Pokémon — require defeating specific Team GO Rocket leaders
